In My Own Skin

By: Joanne Starkman

As a hairstylist I spend many hours standing behind the chair. Not only am I in physical motion, my arms up in the air, standing and bending over a shampoo bowl; I also have to be mentally “on”. A big part of my job is discussing and formulating hairstyles. Yet, an even bigger part of my job is creating a space for my clients to feel safe, to let go, and have a healing experience. This can be very physically and mentally taxing. I have found that I am able to be much more present with my body and with myself when I stay connected to my breath, making sure I take time filling my lungs, bringing my breath in through my nose and letting it easy all the way down to the tips of my toes. Network Chiropractic has helped me and reintroduced me to the importance of body awareness. I have been so blessed to receive treatments from Dr. Nicole Valega. Nicole has a beautiful office in Danville and I am able to see her each week. She uses essential oils which, for me, further enhances the shifts I am supported to make in my body. In my experience each treatment is a bit different depending on where my energy or emotions seem to be needing attention. I just appreciate that I have support in being able to bring breath into my body in such an intentional way. Thank you, Nicole, for your many talents!

Nicole
